Hey friend,

I am so glad you found my little corner of the internet.

Each of us has a story that led us to where we are today. Whether you stumbled across this blog because you are stressed and overwhelmed and looking for rest, or are longing for something more; longing to connect with something deeper within you, or perhaps you are a professional working mom who struggles in secret with a mental illness and looking for relief, strategies and support. Regardless of your story I want you to know that you are welcomed and you are beloved. I believe in you and hope that you find something meaningful here at The Wholehearted Mom.

Our mission & Vision

Mission: To educate, equip, and encourage professional working moms in high-stress jobs so they may experience balance and success both at work and in their motherhood, while building an inspired and supportive community. 

Vision: to become a respected and loved wellness brand that works to redefine ‘working mom’ and that prioritizes moms’ mental health and well-being, because when we help moms thrive we impact the next generation and make the world a better place. 

The story behind the blog…

Today, we live in a challenging culture; one that is fast-paced, demanding, promotes independence and individuality, and strives relentlessly for a socially constructed view of success. I believe that in many cases we have gotten turned backwards and upside down. Why do you think people are searching for things such as yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and minimalism? Because our bodies and spirits are crying for something different- something deeper.

I have been that person. I have found myself stressed and overwhelmed with life and work demands. I have worked in jobs that were demanding and high stress while trying to be present for a family. And I have been that working professional who secretly struggles with a mental illness. I have gone down different paths searching for more and have altered my life to include yoga, mindfulness, minimalism, balanced expectations, mindset shifts, emotion regulation and all the other skills and strategies you’ll find hidden within my blog.

I have a dream. Because of everything I have been through (in life and in my profession as a social worker) I have seen the impacts mental illness, toxic stress, and burnout can have on people. I also know that although there is a lot of great work being done on the stigma around these things, it is often still very taboo and feels shameful to admit that you struggle with mental illness, trauma, or toxic stress. For years I have had a dream – a beautiful dream of how to support, encourage, and create a safe space for working moms who may be struggling to maintain positive mental health, exhausted by the toxic stress in their lives, struggling with a mental illness, or searching for healing. I invite you to be a part of that dream. 

A Little About My Team

I am married to this guy – he is my rock, my encourager, my sidekick, and my partner! He challenges me to be adventurous, calms me when I’m overwhelmed, and walks with me each step of the way in this parenting journey. One of the things I love most about him is how much he loves and cares for others so willingly and graciously. We have been married for 10+ years and are an awesome team!

My first-born daughter whom I call ‘my garden goddess’ has beautiful, wild, blonde curls and is always eager to discover what life has to offer. She is brave and confident in what she knows and cautious about what she doesn’t. She is gentle, thoughtful, and loves animals.

My second daughter (and youngest) whom I call, “my firecracker’ was born with redy blonde hair and is a beautiful combination of snuggly yet adventurous. She is always smiling with her eyes and brightens a room. Yet, her smile has a mischievous grin to it as she eagerly tests limits.

I am so blessed to have these two beautiful girls call me mama! There is a quote I love that says, “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you never knew existed” Both ring so true for me!

A Little About Me

I am a social worker (counsellor, therapist). I have over 10 years of social work experience which includes school social work (high school and elementary), Children’s Aid Society (child protection services), Canadian Mental Health Association crisis team, adolescent eating disorders hospital unit, and a residential adolescent mental health treatment program. Not only do I have a lot of work experience to draw upon but I also have rich experiences through my community which is centered around a church who ministers to the poor and ‘disenfranchised’ in our city, as well as my own personal experiences.

I do not have all the answers to life’s big questions but I believe I have experiences, knowledge, lessons, and tools to share with you, both from my own life experiences as well as the lives around me of those who I have been blessed to share in. I am so excited to share all that I know with you and to learn with you along the way.
