Episode #3 - Let's Create Your Vision Together: One Year Vision Exercise

I am so excited for this week’s episode where we will take our vision from last week, one step further. As a reminder from last episode … If you are someone who is eager to start making changes and learning strategies such as time blocking, creating balance, routines, systems, organization and more than bare with me, we will get there I promise. (those are my favourite parts too, I love systems) however I’ve learned from many years of trial and error that we need to start with a solid foundation. Remember in science class as a kid building a tower with marshmallows and toothpicks. And how fast that tower would topple over if we didn’t build a solid foundation? We don’t want all the progress we make in our motherhood journey to topple over when marshmallows get heavy because we didn’t create a strong foundation.

why vision?

So today we are going to do just that – we are going to continue to build a strong foundation for motherhood, one that is in alignment with our values and vision for who we want to be and how we want to show up in the world as career-focused moms. We are going to do that by participating in a 1 year vision exercise.

We kick-off our Mom CEO coaching program with a Visioning day where I walk the moms through a similar visioning exercise and then they get to take it one step further and bring tjat vision to life by creating a beautiful vision board so they have a constant reminder of the image they long for their motherhood to become. If this sounds like something you are interested in headed to www.sarahreckman.com/groupcoaching for more info. The program launches 3x per year

As you journal through this exercise I encourage you to pause me so you have enough time to reflect on each question.

One Year Vision Exercise

Close your eyes…. I want you to take a journey with me 1 year into the future. Imagine you and I are sitting down together to catch up on your success and all the amazing changes you’ve seen in your motherhood and life.

What are you excited to share with me?

How are you feeling as you share your update?

What did you make happen in the past year in order for it to be a huge success?

What does your ideal morning look like? Do you have a morning routine? Do you get up before the kids and prepare for your day? Do you wake up when your kids wake up knowing you prepared for the day before going to bed

What does your motherhood look like? How does your motherhood feel? What kind of things do you as mom focus on? Where are you investing your time?

What are you proud of in your motherhood?

Do you see yourself delegating? What did you decide to delegate? What does that allow you to do instead?

How does your relationship feel with your children? How are you being an intentional parent?

How is your relationship with your partner? How are you connecting?

What impact have these changes had on your children and partner’s lives?

What does your work life look like? What does your work life feel like?

What does your ideal evening look like? How are you filling your evening time? Do you spend time working out? What are you doing for self-care? Were you able to start a new hobby?

What milestones have you achieved?

Do you have more time and energy to travel with family or girl friends?

Physical wellness, how are you feeling in your physical body? What are you doing to take care of it?

What are you making space for when living this dream vision

Breathe and live this 1 year vision ….breathe in…. Breathe out doubt, fear

Open eyes are rejoin

Your 1 year vision is your why (and your north star). When things get tough it is this vision that will give you purpose and the motivation you need to keep going.

The Visioning exercise was our mindset portion for today’s episode.

Strategy: Keep, Change, Stop

As we transition into the strategy phase of the framework we are going to use a common exercise called Keep, change, stop. I invite you to reflect on what you wrote in your 1 year vision exercise and ask yourself these 3 questions.

  1. What in my life is going well or is in alignment with my values?
  2. What in my life could be in alignment with my new vision if I just made a slight change or what do I need to add to my life to create more alignment?
  3. What am I doing or allowing to happen that is not in alignment with my vision and needs to stop?

Take Action!

Last step of our framework is action.  I invite you to look at your change and stop lists and choose one thing to start working on today.

My hope is that as you journey toward this renewed vision you begin to feel more calm, confident, and joyful.

Oh and if you need some help along the way… you know where to find me.
